It’s important to be around the right type of people. A friend of many moons ago taught me that environment really is everything when it comes to mentality and perspectives. You cannot expect to thrive in an environment where the general consensus of thought is one against your ambitions and goals. Your environment and those in it, see you as it always has. A static perspective on the dynamic facets of self.
Additionally, I believe that you should surround yourself with people who share a common theme in goals. Not the same goal, just the same general idea. The individuality of goals are what make them fun and a want or need that should be achieved. (at least for me!) The competition that naturally comes from sharing similar themes uses our instincts to aid in achieving the personal goal, while remaining social in all the right contexts.
The best thing about changing environments is that the detrimental population of your old environment simply cannot exist in a different environment that is in service of your goals. Sufficiently different, a new environment serves as a natural antiseptic to the parasites of your old environment.
Perhaps, I’m at peak performance in a state of constant flux. That is what my life had been for so many years before I settled into the comfortable mundanity of the Canadian Rockies. It’s as if there is no other condition where I can truly thrive.
Traveller gotta travel.
